Charlie Chaplin

Most of this info was given to me from Mark Persky, but I'm gunna have to add a little bit of information too as I find it ^^

CHARLIE CHAPLIN- ragged suit, little mustache, he wore a derby and often had a cane. (also, a favorite of Mr. Stash) ^^

An English actor, he was the most famous of all silent comics. He made some "Talike" (or non silent films) comics, but only two were really exceptional. His silent shorts are about 20 minutes or less, and almost all of these are worth watching. Try "the Gold Rush" "The Immigrant" or "The Circus"

His "talkies" that are worth watching are "Great Dictator" Which is a satire of Hitler and Mussolini. Also, "Modern Times" Which is a satire of the 20th century industrialized society.

Although he was a US resident for decades, he was not allowed to re-enter the States after a trip abroad in the early 1950's. This was during the McCarthy era Communist 'witch hunts'. The government accused Chaplin of being a communist. The charges were (or course) untrue.

Charlie Chaplin once won third prize in a Charlie Chaplin Look-alike contest.
