Funeral For Ali

Return to Future Schemes

Ali's going to be moving to Clifton, Colorado come September of '11 so as a going away present, it was suggested by John that we throw a funeral for the event.

Being beyond the best idea EVER, that's the plan.

This page is dedicated to the planning/wishes for that event.

Decorations

  • Memorial flowers. Wikipedia suggests marigolds, black roses or aloe. I don't know if it really matters, honestly. I always think flowers that are white or really light in color. We can always get some from Dollar Tree, A.C. Moore, Jo-Ann Fabrics, Wal-Mart or any other craft-type store.
  • Garland. I like the skeleton garland we used for Halloween/Zombie Easter. Those should be used.
  • Coffin. I wanna lay in a coffin (you know: since I'm dead).
  • Table. There should be a table and table cloth. The table cloth should be something black: either a tissue paper table covering or a more "fancy" Gothic one.
  • Candlelight Vigil. Either have an array of candles in one room (if inside) or lining the walkway outside (if outside).

Dress

  • Everyone has to be dressed up. It's a requirement. I don't expect anything fantastical (but if that's how you wish to dress, go for it). At least dress like you're going to a funeral or memorial service, though. (extra points for Gothic style, though!)

Food

  • We're going to either make a coffin-shaped cake or a cake with coffins on it.
  • Spider cookies. A must.
  • Finger foods (like a veggie platter, small sandwiches, a cheese platter…keep it relatively cheap and affordable. It's not going to be a feast)

Ceremony

  • I want a eulogy. I like the idea of everyone saying something for the event, but a eulogy is a must. I don't care who delivers it.
  • When everyone passes the coffin/me to say their last respects, I was thinking it would be cool if instead of giving me a flower, everyone punches me. I'm sure this is an idea that will be approved by all.
  • I like the idea of a New Orleans style funeral. If nothing else, we should play jazz music at the end.
  • I was thinking it would be fun to become a zombie at the end, too. After all, I don't wanna be left out of the ceremonies because I was dead.
