Getting To Know You

Jen came up with this idea a little while ago. We had this idea to have a Finer Things Club like they have in The Office. We tried for one night and it kinda…went nowhere. But she thought it would be a good idea to get to know each other a lot more instead of learning about "finer things".

I really like this idea. It's a lot of fun getting to know people. More importantly, it's highly entertaining learning about a person you really like and care about.

So that's what this page is for. /cue audience applause. I have come up with a number of questions that may seem either dumb or mundane, but just remember: in answering the questions, this is about you. We can all learn more about each other. The smallest most inconsequential things you might think there are about yourself might mean a lot to another person. ^^

So enjoy. And PLEASE post any questions you would want to know about another person.

Love, Ali

What is your favorite color?
ALI: Blue

Jen: Orange

What is your favorite country?
ALI: England/Scotland

Jen: Germany/Australia

Do you like to travel? If so, where have you traveled?
ALI: I love traveling. I know people who have never left the state of Maine before (or their own state, respectively) and I can not understand why they wouldn't want to leave. There's so much out there to see! I've traveled to: Colorado, Illinois, California, Aruba, all the way down the east coast, NYC, Washington D.C., every state in New England (although I guess that's covered in "all the way down the east coast")

Jen: I do indeed love traveling, and any form of adventuring for that matter. I've been all over Maine, parts of Canada (including Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island) I've been to Washington D.C., been on an rv trip from Florida to Maine (car sick most of the way) been to various parts of New England and tp Philli.

Where do you want to end up (location)
ALI: I'm not sure. I really like Maine, but I don't think I would stay here. I always dream about leaving everything behind and jumping ship to England. We'll see. ^^

Jen: Don't know don't care. Where I end up doesn't matter, it's where I go before that.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Ten years?
ALI: Five years, I see myself finally having my life back in order. Ten years? Maybe working at a good job (hopefully a lab!), having enough money to not need to struggle all the time…mayhaps be married…. I don't know.

Jen: I hate this question. I'll be sarcastic and say, a mirror.

What's your first memory?
ALI: My older sister and I were standing on a chair in my great-grandmother's house, trying to fit our small hands over the huge Christmas mittens she had hanging over the fireplace.

Jen: I'm not really sure. I'll get back to you…

Have you ever had any recurring dreams? If so, what were they like(feel free to go into detail if you wish)?
ALI: I used to have them a lot. They were/are always nightmares.

Jen: Not really. A recurring theme perhaps, when I was around 5, of a black wolf very similar to the one in never ending story. He ate my little brother whole in one dream, and terrorized me in others. I eventually made friends with him in the nightmares, and didn't have another dream about a black wolf again until two years ago after I broke up with my ex. He was not my friend in that dream, lol.

What would be five items on your Bucket List?
ALI: Dancing and singing in the rain (to the song, "Singing in the Rain"). Meet Penn & Teller. Learn how to juggle properly. Jump out of a plane. Publish a book.

Jen: I'm going with Ali on the first one, a break into song and dance specifically of Gene Kelly's singing in the rain is a feat I plan to do. As for other things, I want to work with animals, own a farm, have kids to pass all of my scientific knowledge to, and to visit hospitals with specially trained animals to make people feel better when they're sick.

Do you have any animals? How many animals have you had?
ALI: I don't, currently. And personally I have only owned Lord Vegeta (my beautiful black cat) and two beta fish. But my family has had at least six cats, two dogs, somewhere around twenty guinea pigs, countless fish, two parakeets and a rabbit.

Jen: None at the moment. I just killed some triops, if you could call them pets. My family has had a lot of animals, including rabbits, cats, a few dogs including a collie, gold fish, pigs, chicken, guiney fowl, turkey, tree toads, salamanders, parakeets, turtles, ducks, geese, and that's all I can remember. When I was little I think we had goats, a horse and a cow..but I was well…a baby..so it doesn't count..

ALI: I find religion interesting, but my belief stays with science.

Jen: I believe that religion exists. I hate questions worded like this, they invite me to be sarcastic, lol. I am spiritual, but not religious. Organized religion is just stupid, a click if you will that you have to fit in with and pretend to have the same beliefs as everyone else in it or you'll be punished. I'd like religions a whole lot better if they were not organized.

Name one thing you go out of your way to do every day.
ALI: Make someone smile. On the flip side, also be the little demon on the shoulder and instigate something.

ALI: Neil Patrick Harris, Penn Jillette, listening to a certain special playlist

What was/is your area of study? Why did/are you studying what you are?
ALI: English and Biology. I love English and feel that it's present deep within my bones(this feeling isn't weakened at all because of my mother's occupation, either ^^). I wanted to study biology because there are so many more fields open to bio students than there are English majors. That, and I want to work in a lab. And make a dragon for Nathan. And then steal it away.

Jen: I'm studying Wildlife ecology, because I want to work with animals.

He's from Rhode Island.

Jen: I have three brothers, the oldest, Mike, is 6 years older than me, the second oldest is Brian who is 5 years older than me, and then there is Josh, who is three years younger than me.

Jen: Go for a run, hit the gym, draw, tear something apart, hit things etc

Is there anything you think about when you're trying to fall asleep at night?
ALI: I think about a lot of things. Mostly my friends and family or things I need to get done the next day…

Jen: Would you prefer the truth or a lie?

What is a typical day for you?
ALI: Wake up at 8, brush teeth, make coffee, drink coffee, play with kittens, maybe play a video game or watch some TV. Go to work. Text a handful of people throughout the day. Come home. Eat. Hang out with people. Go to bed sometime between 11pm-2am

Jen: crawl out of bed, wander around sleepily and forget what it is I wanted, find some kind of food, head off for school. Sit through classes, kill time in the union between classes, sit through more classes/lab, drive home, find more food, do homework, play with cats, more food, then off to work. After work, straight to bed if I can, classes at 8am the next day..

Do you ever want to have children?
ALI: Sometimes I think so. Other times I worry I wouldn't be a good enough parent to them, so I shouldn't try.

Jen: Yes. I have many things to teach them. Things about science, things about life, things about..bears.

(Assuming you have siblings) Do you have any nieces or nephews?
ALI: I have two: Chloe, who's going to be one in a little more than a month; and Nick, who is two and a half.

Jen: Yes, my oldest brother has a daughter, Elizabeth, and my adoptive family (the family that adopted me) my oldest sister has a son and another one on the way!
